President Muhammadu Buhari just recently commended lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National Assembly for performing their duties in the federal legislature without partisan limitation towards promoting national interest. The President acknowledged non-APC members in the National Assembly who have shown cooperation and understanding and rose above petty party interests and acted in the national interest while commending the leadership of the National Assembly at the party’s NEC meeting.

The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a bicameral legislature (one in which the legislators are divided into two separate assemblies, chambers or houses). It consists of the Senate and House of Representatives. The President of the Senate is the presiding officer of the Senate of Nigeria, elected by its membership. 

The first president of the Nigerian Senate was Nnamdi Azikiwe (1960) and the current president of the Nigerian Senate is Bukola Saraki (2015 - present).
